HONOLULU - The No. 19 San Diego State women's water polo team fell short against No. 1-ranked UCLA, 13-4, on Saturday evening at the University of Hawai'i's Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.

SDSU (13-13) fell behind in the first quarter, 4-0, before trailing the Bruins at halftime, 7-0. Sophomore defender Ioli Benekou led the Aztecs with two goals, while sophomore Caroline Israels and freshman Courtney Jarvis scored one goal apiece.

Jarvis' 12th goal of the season got San Diego State on the scoreboard midway through the third period, before Benekou scored late in the third quarter and early in the fourth to make it 11-3. In addition, junior goalkeeper Rachel Mitchell recorded three of her five saves in the second half.

On Friday, San Diego State played an exhibition game vs. the Brazilian National Team in Hawaii and more than held its own in an 8-6 loss. The Aztecs held a 3-1 lead after one quarter and enjoyed a 5-3 advantage at halftime. The Brazilians, however, kept SDSU off the scoreboard in the third quarter while scoring four goals of their own to move ahead, 7-5.

Both teams scored once in the final eight minutes to provide the final margin. Israels scored twice and teammates Jarvis, Carina Carballo, Nikole Ferrari and Anique Hermann each recorded one goal apiece.
