SDSU 6, BOISE STATE 4 | VIDEO REPLAY

Senior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) and freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) each homered and the San Diego State softball team hammered out 11 hits in a 6-4 victory over Boise State Friday afternoon in Boise, Idaho. The Aztecs improved to 21-12 overall and 4-0 in Mountain West play, while the Broncos dipped to 8-26 and 0-4.

SDSU wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, scoring three runs on three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch in the top of the first inning. Senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) got things going with a leadoff walk and scored on a double by sophomore Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.), who was thrown out at third trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Bauer followed with a solo homer over the center field wall to put San Diego State up, 2-0. It was Bauer's team-leading seventh home run of the season and program-record 48th of her career. Peres (hit by pitch) and senior Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS) (walk) then reached safely, before junior Kayla Bufardeci's (Castro Valley, Calif.) infield single scored Peres all the way from second base. The Aztecs, however, left the bases loaded later after junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) drew a two-out walk.

Shaelee Pearson answered for BSU with a solo homer to lead off the bottom of the first.

SDSU got two runners into scoring position with one out in the second when Cable reached on an infield single and Bauer followed with a double down the left field line. Peres then took a 1-2 pitch over the center field fence to give San Diego State a commanding 6-1 lead after two at-bats.

Boise State added solo scores in the second (stolen base), third (single) and fifth (single), but could never do enough to tie the game up.

The Aztecs outhit the Broncos, 11-9, in the contest, including five extra-base hits to BSU's two (both by Pearson).

Bauer homered, doubled, drew a walk, scored two runs and had an RBI, while Peres had two hits, including the three-run homer, was hit by a pitch and scored twice to pace the SDSU offense. Cable added two hits with an RBI, run and walk. In all, eight of the nine offensive starters had a hit for San Diego State.

Sophomore Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) got the win in the circle after allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks over seven innings. She struck out three and is now 19-9 on the season.

Game No. 2 of the weekend series starts at 4 p.m. PT Saturday.
