SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Sarah Haydock is in eighth-place after the first day of the heptathlon at the 37th annual Aztec Invitational Thursday in San Diego.
Haydock earned 2,105 points over the first four events out of seven on the first day. Alejandra Maldonado of Baja California currently sits in first with 3,227 points.
Haydock began the day by taking 10th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.00 seconds. Next up was the high jump, where she battled to place fifth after clearing 4 feet, 10 ½ inches (1.49 meters), just over Cal St. San Marcos' Kelly Skvarna, who finished at 4-10.25.
The senior then took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 31-01.00 (9.47m), before ending her day with a 12th-place finish in the 200, passing the finish line at 29.58 seconds.
The final day of the heptathlon gets underway Friday (March 27) at 9 a.m. PT with the long jump, followed by the javelin throw (11 a.m. PT) and the 800 (1 p.m. PT).
The open portion of the meet kicks off tomorrow, beginning with the women's 4x100 relay at 9:30 a.m. PT. The invitational and open distance carnival gets underway on Friday night, beginning with the men's masters mile at 4:30 p.m. PT and the women's steeplechase at 4:40 p.m. PT. Also scheduled to take place at the carnival are the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000.
