SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team is set to participate in the 42nd annual San Diego Crew Classic beginning on Saturday, March 27 on Mission Bay. The regatta will run through Sunday, March 28.
The event will be held on the Crown Point Shores on Mission Bay with races beginning at approximately 7:30 a.m. each morning. The first race for the Aztecs will come at 8 a.m. The varsity eight crew will compete in the Women's Collegiate Varsity event, in the third heat. In its heat, SDSU will face crews from Tennessee, Miami, University of Portland, UC San Diego and Santa Clara. The first and second place finishers will advance to the Grand Final, the third and fourth place holders will move onto the Petite Final and the fifth and sixth place finishers will head to the Third Final.
The second race for the Aztecs will come at 9:04 a.m. when the varsity four will compete in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+, in the second heat. In its group, San Diego State will take on UCLA, Duke, Sacramento State and Santa Clara. The first two finishers of this race will move onto the Grand Final with the third and fourth finishers will advance to the Petite Final.
The second varsity will take to the water at 9:44 a.m. for the Women's Collegiate 2V, in the first heat. In the first of the three total groups in this competition, the SDSU boat will face USC, Kansas State, Sacramento State and Saint Mary's. Places one and two will go to the Grand Final, the third and fourth finishers will head to the Petite Final and the fifth and sixth place finishers will move to the Third Final.
San Diego State's final event on Saturday will be held at 12:20 p.m. when the Aztecs compete in the first of two heats in the Women's Open race. Also entered in the first heat are Stanford, UCLA, San Diego and British Columbia. The crews that place in the first through fourth positions will advance to the Grand Final while the fifth through eighth place finishers will move onto the Petite Final.
The Aztecs will enter a crew in the Women's Collegiate 4+ B Final at 11:40 a.m. on Sunday. The SDSU boat will face USC, UCLA, Duke, Sacramento State and UC San Diego.
After the conclusion of the Crew Classic, San Diego State will head to Mercer Lake, N.J. for the Knecht Cup on April 11-12.
