RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The 24th-ranked San Diego State women's golf team split its two matches on Tuesday at the SDSU Farms Invitational, edging UNLV 3-2 in the morning round before falling to Tennessee by a 4-1 count in the afternoon at the Farms Golf Club. With the results, the Aztecs will battle Arizona State for third place on Wednesday beginning at 7:45 a.m. PT.

Despite posting just one individual victory against the No. 18 Rebels in round two, SDSU was able to knock off its Mountain West rival thanks to four halved matches on the par-72, 6,199-yard track.

In a battle of nationally ranked golfers, No. 56 Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) rallied for an all-square finish against No. 2 Dana Finkelstein after carding a par-birdie on the final two holes, while her Rebel adversary went bogey-birdie.

SDSU held late leads in three other matches, but sophomore Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah), freshman Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay) and fellow classmate Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.) were unable to close off their respective opponents.

Blair bogeyed No. 17, while her UNLV counterpart Harley Dubsky made birdie on the 18th to tie. Similarly, Chaves nursed a one-hole lead through 16 in her match against Mackenzie Raim, but a bogey-5 on the same 17th hole allowed her opponent to salvage a tie as well. Meanwhile, Lacey birdied No. 16 to take a 1-up lead in her duel, but could not build on the advantage, closing with a double-bogey and par, while Avery French finished bogey-par.

On the other hand, Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) ultimately supplied the winning margin with a 2-up decision over Mayko Chwen Wang, which included three birdies. The Aztec senior never trailed against her UNLV foe, notching three straight pars on Nos. 15-17 to seal the victory.

San Diego State was unable to repeat the formula in the afternoon as 15th-ranked Tennessee claimed four of five matches. Blair was the Scarlet and Black's lone winner in round three, capturing a 4 & 3 decision over the Lady Vols' Hannah Pietila.

Two undefeated squads will vie for the inaugural match-play title at the SDSU Farms Invitational when Colorado and Tennessee lock horns on Wednesday. In addition to their win over the Aztecs, the Lady Vols dispatched California 4-1 on Tuesday, while Colorado edged Oklahoma State 3-2 before advancing past Arizona State in a tiebreaker.
