The San Diego State women's tennis team kept the momentum going from Sunday's win and picked up its second victory in three days as the Aztecs downed Sacramento State. SDSU dropped the doubles point but swept the singles matches as it finished off the 73rd-ranked Hornets at Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs are now 8-8 on the season.
In doubles play, Tami Nguyen and Hailey Johnson fell to Jennifer Ong and Olivia Boija in the second spot, 6-3. Alina Soltanici and Deimante Bulatovaite clinched the point for Sacramento State as the topped Kristin Buth and Isabelle Hoorn in the first position, 6-4. Despite the point being awarded, the match on court No. 3 played on and Dora Somoracz and Paola Diaz de Regules defeated Daria Savechenko and Ana Loaiza Esquivias, 6-3.
Going into singles action, the 72nd-ranked Aztecs were behind a point but would not be discouraged. In the first spot, Buth dismissed Soltanicia, 6-1, 7-5. In the second position, Nguyen downed Anna-Maria Nau, 6-0, 6-1. On court No. 4, Johnson defeated Boija, 6-3, 6-4. In the third spot, Davis topped Bulatovaite, 7-5, 7-5. In the sixth position, Hoorn got past Savchenko, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Diaz rounded out the Aztec singles victories as she defeated Loaiza Esquivias on court No. 5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Next up, San Diego State will open conference play as it travels to No. 59 San Jose State on Friday followed by a trip to face Nevada on Sunday.
