Junior Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) had two hits and four RBIs to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 7-3 victory over UNLV Sunday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. The win gave the Aztecs (20-12, 3-0 MW) a series sweep over the Rebels (14-17, 0-3 MW).

Bufardeci had a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning, an RBI bunt single in the third and drew a bases loaded walk in the fourth as SDSU outhit UNLV, 10-7, in the contest.

Senior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) was 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs and a walk, while classmate Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) had two hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth, two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) also reached base safely three times with a single, walk and hit by pitch.

Sophomore Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) got the win, giving up one unearned run on three hits over 5 2/3 innings of relief. The right-hander struck out one and picked up all three victories vs. the Rebels over the weekend without allowing an earned run over 19 2/3 innings. Sophomore Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) started the game and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over 1 1/3 innings.

After spotting UNLV a run in the top of the first, SDSU loaded up the bases in the bottom half on two singles (Jordan and Bauer) and a hit by pitch (Peres) for Bufardeci. The third baseman then ripped a single off the right field wall to score both Jordan and Bauer and give San Diego State the 2-1 lead.

The Rebels answered with a pair of runs in the second to take another one-run lead on an Aztec error and a RBI single by Garie Blando.

In the third, Bauer led off with a triple and was replaced by junior Victoria Kobold (Concord, Calif.). After a Peres walk, Bufardeci laid down a perfect bunt to score Kobold with the tying run.

SDSU sealed the win with a four-run fourth inning, thanks to three hits and two walks. Junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) led off with a bunt single and moved to second on a groundout by junior Samantha Camello (Temecula, Calif.). Jordan then took a 2-2 pitch over the right-center field wall for her fourth home run of the year. Bufardeci later scored senior Jacki Campa (La Verne, Calif.) on a bases-loaded walk and sophomore Jaylene Ignacio's (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) sacrifice fly plated Bauer with San Diego State's final run of the game.

The Aztecs hit the road for a three-game series at Boise State, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. MT.
