Final Stats

SANTEE, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team recorded a season-high 16 hits en route to a 10-4 win over Santa Clara Saturday night at the Sportsplex USA Santee in Santee, Calif. The Aztecs are now 17-10 on the season.

After spotting the Broncos (7-19) a run in the bottom of the second inning, SDSU exploded with a six-run third, one in the fourth and three in the seventh. SCU scored three times in the seventh, but too little, too late in the 10-4 decision.

Every San Diego State offensive starter had at least one hit and 12 Aztecs overall contributed at least one hit.

Junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) led the barrage by going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) added two hits, including a solo home run, while junior Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) was 2-for-3 with an RBI single.

Senior Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS) had a two-run double and scored a run and sophomore Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) was 1-for-1 with a solo homer, two runs and a walk.

Five players - senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) (run), freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) (RBI, run), sophomore Frankie Orlando (Roseville, Calif.) (RBI), sophomore Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) (run, walk) and junior Samantha Camello (Temecula, Calif.) (RBI, run) - added a double.

The offense was plenty for sophomore pitcher Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.). The right-hander allowed one run on six hits and a walk over seven innings, while striking out three. Sophomore Andi Smith (Orangeville, Utah) started the seventh and gave up three runs on a hit and two walks without recording an out before Romero went back into finish the game.

SDSU plays host to UConn on Tuesday at 6 p.m. PT at SDSU Softball Stadium.
