Final Stats

SANTEE, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team was unable to match No. 15/13 Baylor's offensive output in a 12-2, five-inning loss Friday night at the Sportsplex USA Santee in Santee, Calif. The Aztecs dropped to 16-10 with the setback, while the Bears improved to 16-6.

Facing its eighth nationally ranked opponent on the season, SDSU was outhit, 15-4, in the game, including 5-1 in extra-base hits.

After BU took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, San Diego State closed the gap in the bottom half. Senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) led off with an infield single and scored all the way from first on a play at the plate when freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) ripped a double off the right-center field fence. After junior Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) drew a walk, Peres advanced to third on a throwing error by Baylor catcher Christy Lisenby and scored on a groundout by freshman Taylor Stewart (Bellflower, Calif.).

It would be the final runs of the game for the Aztecs, however, as the Bears scored the final nine runs en route to the 12-2 win.

Peres led the SDSU offense with two hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Jordan and senior Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) each added singles.

Sophomore Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.), who came into the day ranked first in the nation in innings pitched (121.1) and third in victories (14), took the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks over 2 2/3 innings, while striking out two. She dropped to 14-7 on the season. Cable pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits with one strikeout. Sophomore Andi Smith (Orangeville, Utah) pitched the fifth inning and yielded two runs on four hits.

San Diego State wraps up its play in the San Diego Classic II at 7 p.m. PT Friday vs. Santa Clara.
