COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Five San Diego State divers competed on the platform on Wednesday, the final event of the Zone E Championships being hosted by the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. A total of 34 athletes were involved in the event with the top eight qualifying for next week's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C.

The Aztecs' top finisher on the platform was freshman Makena Chamoures, who posted a score of 213.85 for her five dives to end up in 20th place. With only the top 18 moving on to the afternoon finals, Chamoures missed qualifying to advance to the next round by just 2.45 points.

Fellow freshman Alexandra Caplan was next for SDSU as she placed 22nd with a score of 202.55. Following Caplan was sophomore Isabelle Choquehuanca, who finished 27th with a mark of 18.035.

Also competing for San Diego State were Nicole Dutton, who place 28th with a score of 174.35, and Shannon Finigan, whose mark of 158.20 allowed her to finish in the 32nd spot.

Although none of SDSU's divers qualified to advance to the NCAA meet, Caplan is the second alternate on the 1-meter springboard after finishing 10th in that event on Tuesday.

The Aztecs will send seven swimmers to the NCAA Championships next week (March 19-21) to compete in five individual events and three relays. That group includes Chelsea Bailey, Anika Apostalon and Summer Harrison in the individual races along with Whitney Weisz, Laura Day, Taylor Johnson and Savannah Miller, who will swim in the relays.

Prelims get underway at 11:00 a.m. (ET) each day with the finals sessions scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. (ET) each evening.
