NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - No. 10 San Diego State wrapped up UCI Invitational action on Sunday with a pair of losses to top-20 squads. The Aztecs were edged by T-No. 20 Loyola Marymount, 5-4, and was on the short end of an 8-6 decision to No. 13 UC Davis. The two defeats drop the Scarlet and Black to 6-6 on the season.

SDSU was slow to get its offense going in its 8 a.m. game vs. the Lions, but the sluggish start was negated by LMU's effort as it scored only one goal, a first-quarter strike, in the first half. Trailing 1-0 to begin the third period, San Diego State broke through on the way to three goals. Loyola Marymount, however, scored two of its own and the contest moved to the fourth with the score tied, 3-3. In the deciding frame, the Lions limited the Aztecs to one goal while posting two of their own to upset SDSU.

Caroline Israels recorded two goals for San Diego State and was joined in the scoring column by Taylor Gums and Anique Hermann, who each scored once. Rachel Mitchell was credited with seven saves in net for SDSU.

The loss sent the Aztecs to the 11th-place game where the Aggies awaited. San Diego State took an early 2-1 lead in the first quarter only to have UC Davis reverse the score in the second to level the score at 3-3 after 16 minutes. The Aggies moved ahead, 7-4, thanks to a 4-1 effort in the third period. The Aztecs attempted to stage a rally in the fourth, scoring twice, but UCD added a single goal to help it secure the two-goal victory.

Israels, Makena Magro, Ioli Benekou, Carina Carballo, Alex Hoetker and Alyssa Diacono each scored one goal apiece for San Diego State. Mitchell made nine saves between the pipes.

SDSU returns to action on Friday when it plays host to fifth-ranked UC Irvine at Aztec Aquaplex. First sprint is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT and admission is free.
