SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The San Diego State swimming and diving team finds itself in second place after opening day of the 2015 Mountain west Championships being contested at Palo Alto College in San Antonio, Texas. The Aztecs trail Boise State by seven points and hold a 16-point advantage on third-place Nevada.
SDSU opened the evening finals session by winning the 200 medley relay as the foursome of Anika Apostalon, Laura Day, Summer Harrison and Chelsea Bailey went 1:37.60. Their time was a Mountain West and MW Championship meet record as well as an Aztec school record.
On the 1-meter springboard, freshman diver Alexandra Caplan captured second place with a score of 3:05 10. Also registering points in the diving was Isabelle Choquehuanca, who place 10th with a point total of 238.70.
The final event of the first day was the 800 freestyle relay where the Aztec quartet of Frida Berggren, Natilee Ruiz, Whitney Weisz and Savannah Miller placed third in 7:10.21. Their time enters the SDSU record book as the second-fastest ever in program history.
Action continues at the championship meet on Thursday (Feb. 19) with prelims in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle getting under at 11:00 a.m. CT (9:00 a.m. PT). Prelims for the 3-meter diving will start at 12:30 p.m. MT (10:30 a.m. PT).
