COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior Winston Shepard has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced Monday morning. The award is Shepard's second of the season and of his career. He is one of two players to earn the award at least twice in 2014-15.
The Houston, Texas, native helped SDSU gain sole possession of first place in the MW standings with home victories over Wyoming and Colorado State. Shepard averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals. Shooting-wise, the forward connected on 58.3 percent from the field and 60.0 percent from behind the three-point arc.
In win over the Cowboys, Shepard knocked down a career-high seven field goals en route to a game-high 18 points, while dishing out three assists to lead all players. Then against the Rams, the junior went 7-for-11 from the floor to post a team-best 19 points, and added a career-high 11 rebounds and a game-high three assists.
Shepard, who was the MW Player of the Week on Dec. 1, and the Aztecs return to action on Tuesday when they face New Mexico at WisePies Arena in Albuquerque. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. MT/6:30 p.m. PT start on CBS Sports Network.
