ALBUQUERQUE, N.M - The San Diego State track and field team had a solid final day at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M., recording five marks that made the school's all-time top-10 indoor list.
Micha Auzenne led the way with a pair of times that made the top 10. The Arizona State transfer ran a time of 8.35 seconds in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, which was the fifth-fastest time in program history and was good enough for seventh in a loaded field today. This came after clocking an 8.36 in the prelims. She also ran a time of 7.57 in the open 60 meters, which ranks as the eighth-fastest time and got her 18th in the prelims.
Also excelling on the track for the Aztecs was Ellison Grove. Grove, a freshman, beat out 16 other entrants in the 800 with a time of 2:11.60. That ranks third all-time at SDSU, despite running at 5,312 feet of elevation.
In the field events, Jasmine Burrell continued her strong season with a fourth-place showing in the shot put with a heave of 51 feet, 8 ½ inches (15.76 meters) in an event that featured 43 entrants. Rachel Alesi, meanwhile, came in 12th with a mark of 46-10.25 (14.28m), which ranks sixth all-time at San Diego State.
In the pole vault, Bonnie Draxler tied for third, clearing 13-02.25 (4.02m). Karen Snapper had the same mark at 13-02.25, but finished eighth. Snapper's 13-02.25 is tied for seventh all-time with the Aztecs.
Other solid outings came from Madison Gipson in the 60 hurdle prelims (15th, 8.69), Ariel Oliver in the shot put (16th, 44-09.00 (13.64m)), Kortney Ross in the pole vault (T-17th, 12-08.25 (3.87m)) and Ashley Henderson in the 400 (22nd, 57.38).
The 4x400 relay team of Jazmen Bunch, Gipson, Janice George and Dynasty Gammage closed the meet in 10th in 3:52.11.
SDSU begins the championship portion of the indoor season Feb. 26 with the three-day Mountain West Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
