ALBUQUERQUE, N.M - The San Diego State track and field team posted four top-10 finishes on the first day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational Friday night in Albuquerque, N.M.
Elaine Ribeiro led the way, running the third-fastest mile in school history with a time of 5 minutes, 6.54 seconds at an altitude of 5,312 feet. That was good enough for third out of 13 entrants in the unseeded mile.
Jasmine Burrell continued her early season success by taking sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 61 feet, ¼ inches (18.60 meters). That was out of 35 entrants in the event.
Madison Gipson, meanwhile, finished seventh out of 60 in the unseeded 400 in 56.32 and Dynasty Gammage was ninth in 1:37.22.
Other Aztecs finishing their competition on the first day of the two-day meet included Janice George in the 400 (29th, 58.11), and Ashley Henderson (31st, 24.73) and Jazmen Bunch (33rd, 24.81) in the 200.
SDSU wraps up the meet Saturday with the shot put at 9:30 a.m. MT (PT) with the closing coming with the the 4x400-meter relay at 3:05 p.m. MT (2:05 p.m. PT).
