SAN DIEGO -

SDSU 6, North Dakota State 1

Senior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) became San Diego State softball's all-time RBI leader in a 6-1 victory over North Dakota State at the 25th annual Campbell/Cartier Classic Thursday night at SDSU Softball Stadium.

Bauer broke Patrice Jackson's school record with a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning and added an RBI double in the third. Bauer, who had the record until she redshirted the 2014 campaign and Jackson passed her, now has 141 career RBIs with still the majority of her final season to go.

Bauer finished 2-for-3 with the three RBIs, a run and a double, while sophomore Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) added a two-run homer to cap a four-run third inning for the Aztecs (4-2). Junior Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) had an RBI single and scored a run, and senior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) singled, scored two runs and was hit by a pitch. Senior Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) had SDSU's other hit, going 1-for-2 with a run and a walk.

The offense was plenty for sophomore pitcher Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.). The right-hander tossed a complete game with six strikeouts. She allowed one run on seven hits and four walks over seven innings to improve to 3-2 on the season.

San Diego State scored the first six runs of the game, including two in the first. Miles led off with a single and moved up a base on a groundout by junior Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.). Jordan reached on a Bison (5-2) error and each runner advance a base on a wild pitch. Bauer then stroked a 3-2 pitch to left center to put the Aztecs up, 2-0.

The Aztecs tacked on four runs in the third, all with two outs. Jordan kept the inning alive with a single and Bauer followed with a run-scoring double down the left field line. Bufardeci then took the first pitch she saw up the middle to plate Bauer and replace her at second. Ignacio followed with a homer well over the left-center field fence for SDSU's final runs of the game.

NDSU, which beat Oregon State, 4-2, earlier in the day, finally scored in the sixth when Maritza Lopez-Portillo's double off the left field wall scored Cheyenne Garcia. Amanda Grable tried to score from second on the play, but the relay from Ignacio in left field to junior Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) at shortstop to sophomore catcher Frankie Orlando (Roseville, Calif.) got her at the plate. After a walk, Romero got out of the inning by getting Tabby Heinz to fly out to Miles in center field.

Romero stranded eight North Dakota State runners in the game.

San Diego State returns to action Friday with games against Oregon State (4:30 p.m. PT) and Seton Hall (7 p.m. PT).
