SAN DIEGO - San Diego State football head coach Rocky Long has announced the addition of Blane Morgan as the team's quarterbacks coach.
Morgan comes to The Mesa after spending the past 12 seasons at Air Force, including the last eight as the quarterbacks coach with the Falcons and seven as the team's offensive coordinator. AFA has advanced to seven bowl games over the past eight years, compiling a 59-44 (.573) record over that span.
Morgan was also the wide receivers coach at Air Force from 2005-06 and was an assistant with the varsity and JV team from 2003-04.
Some of Morgan's top pupils at AFA include Shaun Carney and Tim Jefferson. Carney, who graduated in 2008, finished as the program's all-time leader in passing touchdowns, yards and total offense, while Jefferson became the first player in school history to be named the MW Freshman of the Year (2008). Jefferson would go onto become the first Falcon quarterback to lead his team to four straight bowl games and finish with the most wins (28) in program history.
Morgan graduated from The Academy in 1999, where he became the winningest starting quarterback in program history at 20-3 (.870). As a senior in 1998, Morgan led Air Force to a 12-1 record and was named the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive Player of the Year. He was only the second quarterback in program history to win his first seven starts. Additionally, Morgan was the only quarterback in Falcons' history to lead the school to an outright conference title.
A three-year letterwinner at AFA, Morgan was a graduate assistant with his alma mater during the 1999 season before serving in the U.S. Air Force from 2000-03.
Morgan and his wife, Mandy, have two children - Brodie and Camille.
Morgan replaces Brian Sipe, who retired after coaching the Aztec quarterbacks the past six years.
