SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State captured 13 of 14 events and set nine pool records as it defeated Pacific, 129-113, Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex. With the victory, SDSU completed an undefeated season with a record of 18-0.
The Aztecs opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in a pool record time of 1:41.52. The mark recorded by the foursome of Anika Apostalon, Emilie Campbell, Summer Harrison and Chelsea Bailey goes into the SDSU record book as the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Campbell went on to set a pair of Aztec Aquaplex records while capturing both the 100 breaststroke (1:01.96) and 200 breaststroke (2:15.08) events. Both marks were personal bests for the senior with her time in the 100 breast entering the Aztec record book as the third-fastest time ever and the 200 breast mark as the fifth-best for an SDSU swimmer.
Sophomore Frida Berggren established a school and pool record with a win in the 200 butterfly in 1:59.61. She added another pool record to her name when she captured the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:21.23.
Aztec Aquaplex records were also set by Summer Harrison in the 100 butterfly (53.50), Whiney Weisz in the 200 freestyle (1:48.78) and Natilee Ruiz in the 200 backstroke (1:59.83). It marked the third time this season that Harrison, a freshman, set the pool record in the 100 fly.
Weisz also won the 100 freestyle (50.20) with the Aztecs' other individual race winners being Taylor Johnson in the 50 freestyle (23.16) and Alex Wolf in the 500 freestyle (5:03.9).
San Diego State wrapped up with the meet with the quartet of Apostalon, Bailey, Ruiz and Weisz capturing the 400 freestyle race in 3:21.19. That time established SDSU's ninth pool record on the afternoon.
Although Saturday's contest was the final dual meet of the season, the Aztec divers will be in action next weekend when they participate in the annual Air Force Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30-31) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The swimmers and divers will then have three weeks to prepare for the 2015 Mountain West Championships to be held Feb. 18-21 at Palo Alto College in San Antonio, Texas.
