COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Chelsea Bailey has been named Mountain West Swimmer of the Week while fellow Aztec Alexandra Caplan has earned MW Women's Diver of the Week honors for competition over the 2014-15 winter holiday break. It is the first Mountain West weekly accolade for Bailey and second for Caplan in their respective careers. Both athletes competed in two meets last week, leading the Aztecs to a 5-0 dual meet record.

Bailey (Kent, Wash./Kentlake HS) recorded four event wins in the quad-meet against Air Force, Incarnate Word and UC San Diego on December 29. She won the 50-yard freestyle (23.87) and 100-yard freestyle (52.21) and also swam legs on the victorious 200-yard medley relay (1:45.07) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:30.55) teams. The 200-medley relay time of 1:45.07 was the ninth-fastest in Aztec Aquaplex history.

Against Grand Canyon and Incarnate Word on January 3, Bailey won two events and placed second in two. She won the 50-free (23.40) and placed second in the 100-free (51.80). She also swam a leg on the winning 400-yard medley relay (3:47.60) and a leg on the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:34.66). The 400-medley relay time set a pool record at the Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla, Calif.

Caplan (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo HS) posted NCAA-qualifying marks in four events over the two meets last week. Against Air Force, Incarnate Word and UC San Diego on December 29, she won the 3-meter springboard (329.35) and was third in the 1-meter springboard (271.45). Her mark on the 3-meter board was a personal-best and ranks second all-time for an Aztec diver. The score currently ranks third in the Mountain West standings.

On January 3 against Grand Canyon and Incarnate Word, Caplan won both the 1-meter (289.55) and the 3-meter boards (324.50). Her 1-meter score was her best as an Aztec and ranks fourth all-time at SDSU. It also currently ranks third in the MW this season.

San Diego State returns to the pool on Friday, Jan. 9, when it hosts a double dual meet against Nevada and Rice with the first race scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. at the Aztec Aquaplex.
