37th ANNUAL AZTEC INVITATIONAL MEET INFO

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field team has announced details for the 37th annual Aztec Invitational, which be held from March 26-28, 2015 in San Diego. All events will be held at the AzTrack at SDSU Sports Deck except for the invitational and open hammer throw competitions, which will take place on the campus of UC San Diego on Friday, March 26.

The three-day Aztec Invitational will once again feature some of the top collegiate teams and athletes in the country. The meet will include invitational and open entries, nationally sanctioned high school sections, and special masters sections.

The meet kicks off Thursday, March 26 with the two-day men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.

On Friday (March 27), the hammer throw will take place at UC San Diego, while final day of the multi-events and rest of the meet will be held at SDSU. Friday evening is distance carnival and will include the USA Track and Field (USATF) sanctioned Masters Mile.

The remainder of the invitational section and the National Federation of the State High School Associations (NFHS) sanctioned high school section will wrap up the 37th edition of the meet on Saturday (March 28).

Numerous teams are expected to compete in the annual meet, including many of the area's universities, junior colleges and high school athletes.

"Our objective is for this meet to be an athlete and coach friendly season opener with quality competition," head coach Shelia Burrell said. "Last year, Oregon, Brigham Young, USC and several of the returning teams for this year's invite produced national-leading marks in multiple events."

San Diego State will also partner with the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center once again to host participating teams.

"The (Chula Vista) Olympic Training Center sent several elite athletes last year, including a number of Paralympians," Burrell said. "We had our first-ever wheelchair race at the facility as well as visually impaired competitors. That was pretty exciting."

Additional info, including participating teams and a registration link will be released as it becomes available.

"Our meet is a great way to kick off the 2015 track and field season," Burrell said. "We always schedule our meet to be the second weekend right after the (DI) NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, so everyone is ready to the oval running."
