Aztecs Announce Two Signings for the 2015 Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State Head Coach Deitre Collins-Parker has announced the signing of two players to National Letters of Intent for the 2015 season. That duo includes an international athlete and one of the top players in the state of Florida.

Alyssa Mathis is a 6-0 outside and middle hitter who attends Bishop McLaughlin Catholic HS in Spring Hill, Fla. One of Tampa Bay's top outside hitters, the powerful junior racked up 100 blocks and almost 400 kills to help Bishop McLaughlin finish 18-7 and reach the Class 3A region semifinals during her junior campaign.

This past summer Mathis played at the 2014 European Global Challenge Pula, Croatia, for the Bring it USA All-Star team that won a silver medal. She also competes for No Name Volleyball Club in the Tampa area.

The second signee is Alexandra Psoma, a 5-11 outside hitter who is a member of the Greek National team. She currently plays for Team Markopoulos in the top division in Greece and was named the league's Novasports Rookie of the Year.

Psoma has also competed in the CEV Youth Volleyball European Championships for the Greece youth national team and the Youth World Championships with teams advancing to the final four of each of those tournaments. Greece's youth national team was one of six teams representing Europe at the world championships.

San Diego State recently concluded its 2014 season with a record of 14-15 overall and 9-9 in the Mountain as it finished in sixth place in the 11-team conference.
