SAN DIEGO - San Diego State associate head coach Stacey Nuveman Deniz will be an assistant coach at the 2015 USA Softball Junior Women's (19-Under) National Team (JWNT) Selection Camp. The two-day camp, which incoming Aztec freshman Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) was also selected to attend, will take place Jan. 3-4, 2015 at Bill Barber Park in Irvine, Calif.
Nuveman Deniz, who is in her seventh season at SDSU, has been on the USA Women's National Team coaching pool for most of the past four years. The selection committee for the national team chooses the coaching pool every two years based on the International Softball Federation (ISF) World Championships biennial cycle.
Nuveman Deniz was an assistant coach for the 2011 USA Softball Women's National Team and the 2010 Women's National Team Selection Camp at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch Women's International Championship and at the World Cup of Softball VI.
As a player, Nuveman Deniz led USA to a pair of Olympic gold medals (2000 and 2004) and silver medal in 2008, and helped the U.S. to a World Cup championship (2006), two World Championships (2002 and 2006) and two Pan American gold medals (1999 and 2003). Most recently, her 2004 Olympic gold medal team was inducted into the U.S. Olympic hall of fame in July 2012, while Nuveman Deniz was inducted into the UCLA hall of fame in October 2012.
Peres hopes to be one of 17 athletes selected to represent the United States as a member of the 2015 JWNT roster that will compete at the World Cup of Softball X in Southern California and ISF Junior Women's World Championship this summer, which will be picked by the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Committee (WNTSC). During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the WNTSC.
The World Cup of Softball X will take place in Southern California from June 30-July 5, while the ISA Junior Women's World Championships will run from Aug. 9-15 in Oklahoma City.
