Fall Classic II Day Two Result
The San Diego State women's tennis team wrapped the second day of play at the SDSU Fall Classic II. The event which is being held at Aztec Tennis Center, will conclude tomorrow. The only Aztec still in the hunt for the title in their respective bracket is senior Hailey Johnson, who is competing in the blue draw.
In the red bracket Tami Nguyen and Dora Somoracz were topped by Alex Clark and Brittany Lashway of Missouri, 8-3. Also dropping their decision was the Buth sister duo of Kristin and Jana as they fell to the UC Irivine Facey duo of Kat and Ali, 8-4. Kennedy Davis and Johnson will compete for the consolation title in the black draw after downing Gracia Mboko and Morgan Barnhill of Denver, 8-3. Rounding out doubles action for SDSU was Olivia Larsson and Isabelle Hoorn. The Aztec duo came close but couldn't close out Jeannez Daniel and Matilda Tench of UTEP, 8-6.
In singles play, Nguyen's original opponent in the red draw, Elainne Douglas-Miron withdrew, giving Nguyen the win. The Aztec then faced Grace Ysidora of Washington and came away with the victory, 6-2, 6-1. In the black bracket, Somoracz wouldn't be as fortunate, falling to Miki Kobayashi of Washington, 6-0, 6-3. Also dropping her decision in a hard-fought duel was Davis to Julija Lukac of Washington, 6-0, 2-6, 10-5.
Freshman Jana Buth was topped by Riko Shimizu of Washington in the white draw, 6-2, 7-5. In the gold bracket, Paola Diaz de Regules will vie for the consolation title after rallying from one set down to defeat Ali Facey of UC Irvine, 5-7, 6-1, 10-4.
The blue draw saw opposite results for San Diego State as Hailey Johnson remained perfect in her singles play and will compete for the championship title after finishing off Julia O'Loughlin of Denver, 6-3, 6-4. Larsson just missed the opportunity to contend for the consolation title after falling to Natalie Allen of Washington, 6-0, 2-6, 10-4. Hoorn will play for the consolation title after defeating Sophia Bott of Washington, 6-0, 6-1.
The SDSU Fall Classic II will conclude competition on Sunday at Aztec Tennis Center.
