SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team will battle Point Loma in its lone exhibition game of the 2014-15 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Viejas Arena. Opening tip is slated for noon PT.
Under the direction of second-year head coach Stacie Terry, the Aztecs return three starters and eight letterwinners from last year's squad that finished with a 13-17 overall record and tied for sixth in the Mountain West with a 9-9 mark in league play.
SDSU also welcomes seven newcomers to Montezuma Mesa, including McKynzie Fort (Fontana, Calif.), who was named the MW preseason freshman of the year last month by a combined panel of the league's head coaches and select media members. With her selection, Fort became the fifth straight Aztec to earn top preseason MW freshman honors, joining current teammates Chairese Culberson (Oakland, Calif.) and Chloe Johnson (Phoenix, Ariz.), who received such distinction in 2011 and 2013, respectively. As a team, SDSU was picked to finish seventh in the conference race this season, earning 134 points to trail sixth-place UNLV (143 pts.) by just nine points.
In addition to their strong recruiting class, the Aztec roster will be bolstered by the return of juniors Erimma Amarikwa (Vacaville, Calif.) and Ahjalee Harvey (Mountain View, Calif.), who were both sidelined prior to conference play a year ago with season-ending injuries.
Meanwhile, PLNU posted an 18-10 overall record during the 2013-14 campaign, including a 13-7 ledger in league action to tie for third place in the PacWest Conference. The Sea Lions, who enter their first year as full-fledged NCAA Division II members, return six letterwinners, including senior Jessica Escorza, who landed on the preseason all-PacWest team.
Season tickets for the 2014-15 SDSU women's basketball home schedule are currently on sale and start at $60. They can be purchased online at GoAztecs.com or by calling the Aztec ticket office at (619) 283-7378.
San Diego State opens its regular-season slate on Friday, Nov. 14, when it plays host to Sacramento State at Viejas Arena, beginning at 2 p.m. PT.
