SAN DIEGO - San Diego State had a Mountain West-best five players earn all-conference honors, the league announced Tuesday morning ahead of the start of the 2014 MW Women's Soccer Championship at SDSU Sports Deck. This marks the second straight season the three-time defending regular-season champion Scarlet and Black has had five Aztecs recognized.
Picking up first-team accolades were seniors Kelsey Booth, Haley Locker and Katie Perry. Fellow classmate Hannah Keane and freshman Stacie Moran, meanwhile, landed on the all-league second team.
Booth, a midfielder, was voted to the first team for the second year in a row after producing a team-best 13 points on the strength of a team-high-tying four goals and an SDSU-best five assists during conference action. The Concord native led the Mountain West in assists and assists per game (0.45), and ranked second in points and points per game (1.18). Booth also scored the third-most goals in 11 MW games.
Locker is a first-time all-Mountain West pick in a final season that saw her total three goals, four assists and 10 points. All three statistics were the second-highest among all Aztecs during league play. At the conference level, the senior forward was tied for second in assists and assists per game (0.36), tied for sixth in points and points per game (0.91), and tied for ninth in goals.
Perry enjoyed a breakout final campaign by scoring four of her five goals and tallying half of her four assists against Mountain West foes. The midfielder's 10 points in conference action also tied Locker for the second most on the team. Hailing from Mission Viejo, Perry finished in the top 10 in the league standings in numerous categories such as goals (T-3rd), goals per game (T-4th, 0.36), points (T-6th), points per game (T-6th, 0.91), shots (T-7th), shots per game (T-8th, 2.55) and assists (T-10th).
Keane wrapped up her career as a three-time all-conference performer after producing four goals, one assist and nine points. The four goals tied Booth for the team lead in league action and her point total was the fourth-highest among all Aztecs. The Sacramento native was tied for second in the MW in game-winning goals (3), tied for third in goals, fourth in shots (33) and shots per game (3.00), and tied for fourth in goals per game (0.36).
Lastly, Moran was voted to the all-MW squad as a true freshman, a feat not accomplished on Montezuma Mesa since 2010 when Soledad Gomez and fellow defender Haley Palmer both were named to the second team. A staple in the backfield, Moran helped the Aztecs blank four teams and hold six MW foes to one goal or less. She also helped limit conference opponents to only 20 corner kicks and just 7.3 shots per game. In fact, Moran anchored a backline that yielded a mere five corner kicks and six goals in the second half during an 11-game conference schedule.
