SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's lacrosse coach Kylee White announced the addition of Luke Duprey to the Aztecs' coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2015 spring season.
Duprey is a former team captain at Duke, where he led the Blue Devils to consecutive national championships and four Final Four appearances before being selected fourth overall by the New York Lizards in the 2014 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Draft. He earned All-American honors as a senior at Duke in 2014, recording 35 groundballs and 22 caused turnovers despite suffering a knee injury in April.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Luke to our coaching staff for the 2015 season," White said. "As a player, he was an intense competitor and leader, and we feel he will bring that same passion and knowledge to our team. Luke will contribute immediately by providing expertise from his championship experience, while also assisting in recruiting and helping our play in the midfield."
Duprey said he intends on helping with all aspects of the team and assisting with a little bit of everything on the practice field.
"I think it's a great opportunity," Duprey said. "I really like the direction they're taking the program, and it's something I want to build on. It's a new program and they're already starting to see success. I just want to come in and help them continue what they've been doing."
San Diego State made its first postseason appearance in only the program's third season of existence in 2014. The Aztecs set several new program records along the way, including most Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) victories (4), most road victories (4) and most conference player of the week honors (6). SDSU returns 13 players who started at least five games last season, while its 2014 recruiting class features four All-Americans, four all-State selections and three transfers from other Division I programs.
