COLUMBIA, S.C. - The San Diego State women's basketball team ran into a juggernaut Sunday, falling to No. 2/3 South Carolina by an 89-38 count at Colonial Life Arena. With the loss, SDSU slips to 1-3 overall, while the Gamecocks keep their unblemished record intact at 3-0.

South Carolina shot 51 percent from the floor (33-65) and converted 29 Aztec turnovers into 31 points to help fuel its big win. Conversely, SDSU connected on just 14 of its 49 field goal attempts (29 percent) and was outscored 40-8 in the paint.

Individually, junior Erimma Amarikwa (Vacaville, Calif.) paced the Aztecs with nine points and six rebounds to go along with a career high-tying three steals, while senior Chairese Culberson (Oakland, Calif.) grabbed six boards of her own. In addition, sophomore Aleiah Brandon (Corona, Calif.) drained her first two collegiate three-pointers to finish with six points.

SDSU actually led for the only time in the game at 6-5 following a pair of free throws by freshman Cheyenne Greenhouse (Riverside, Calif.) with just over four minutes elapsed. However, South Carolina lived up to its lofty status and more, scoring the next 14 points as part of a 33-2 run to take complete control of the contest by the 4:12 mark of the first half.

The Gamecocks' Tiffany Mitchell led all players with 20 points, highlighted by a 6-for-6 effort from three-point range, while A'ja Wilson (15 pts.), Bianca Cuevas (11 pts.) and Alaina Coates (10 pts.) each produced double-digit scoring totals as well.

The Aztecs will now spend Thanksgiving weekend in the Caribbean when they compete at the 2014 San Juan Shootout in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. SDSU will square off against Idaho State on Thursday, Nov. 27 (3 p.m. AT/11 a.m. PT), followed by a clash with Big Ten foe Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 29 (1 p.m. AT/9 a.m. PT).
