SAN DIEGO - San Diego State Aztec men's soccer senior defender Evyn Hewett (La Palma, Calif.) was selected to the all-Pac-12 second team by College Sports Madness, the publication recently announced.
Hewett, who was the Aztecs' team captain in 2014, started all 19 contests and played every minute of every match while leading SDSU's defense on the back line this season. In addition, Hewett made 58 career starts and appeared in 68-consecutive matches to close his Aztec career.
A four-year letterwinner at San Diego State, Hewett led the Aztecs to seven home victories this season, which tied for the most wins at SDSU Sports Deck since 2006 (8). The Aztecs went 6-3 in non-conference play, and are now 18-5-2 in non-conference home matches since the beginning of the 2010 season. SDSU also went 6-2 in matches this season when scoring first and 7-4 when either ahead or tied at halftime, showing the effectiveness of the Aztecs' defense.
SDSU (7-12, 1-9 Pac-12) finished the 2014 campaign with three victories over ranked opponents, as they played five matches against teams ranked in the top 10 of the NSCAA Coaches Poll, and 13 contests against teams who were ranked at some point this season.
The Pac-12 sent five of its six teams to the 2014 NCAA Tournament, and concluded the season as the No. 1 RPI conference in Division I. The conference owned with the top winning percentage (.619), the best road winning percentage (.563) and the best strength of schedule based on opponents winning percentage (.588) in the country.
