SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team begins its 39th season of competition and second under head coach Stacie Terry this weekend when it opens a two-game homestand at Viejas Arena. The Aztecs will battle Sacramento State in their season opener on Friday, Nov. 14, before Long Beach State invades "America's Finest City" two days later on Nov. 16. Both contests are slated for a 2 p.m. PT start and will be streamed live via the Mountain West Network on www.goaztecs.com.
SDSU will play a season lid-lifter at home for just the fourth time in the last 10 years when it squares off against a Hornet squad that handed the Scarlet and Black a tough 93-89 defeat in a high-scoring affair on the road last season. Meanwhile, the Aztecs will tackle the 49ers in just the sixth meeting since 1995 between the former WCAA/PCAA/Big West Conference rivals.
SDSU returns three starters and eight letterwinners from a year ago, including senior forward Khristina Hunter (Fairfield, Calif.), who ranked sixth in the Mountain West with 6.9 rebounds per game and a .476 field-goal percentage during the 2013-14 campaign.
The Aztecs also welcome a highly touted freshman class, led by point guard McKynzie Fort (Fontana, Calif.), who was named the Mountain West preseason freshman of the year last month.
In its lone tune-up before the regular season, SDSU emerged with a 55-52 exhibition victory over Point Loma at Viejas Arena on Nov. 8, as junior forward Erimma Amarikwa (Vacaville, Calif.) finished with a team-high 10 points off the bench.
