The San Diego State cross country team travels to Stanford, Calif., to compete in the NCAA West Regional on Friday. The women's 6,000-meter race kicks off at 11 a.m. PT on the Stanford Golf Course.

The top-two teams in the NCAA West Regional and the top-four individuals not on qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22 at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on the campus of Indiana State. The west regional is one of nine regionals that will be competing on Friday as 18 teams and 36 individuals will automatically advance to Terre Haute. Another 13 teams and two individuals will be chosen by an NCAA subcommittee on Saturday for the additional at-large selections.

The Aztecs are one of 38 teams that have entered Friday's meet. Six of the 38 teams are nationally ranked, including No. 3 Oregon, No. 10 Stanford, No. 15 Washington, No. 24 Arizona State, No. 25 Boise State and No. 27 UCLA.

SDSU is coming off a 10th-place showing at the Mountain West Championships on Oct. 31 in Fresno, Calif. Elaine Ribeiro was the team's top placer for the fifth time of the year, running the 6K course in 22 minutes, 2.30 seconds.

San Diego State's No. 2-5 runners were separated by just over 22 seconds, led by Lily Seynaeve in 61st in 22:36.30. Cassidy Towner was 64th (22:43.00), while Dynasty Gammage (66th, 22:45.60) and Rachel Roesgen (72nd, 22:58.60) rounded out the team's top five. Grace Hanshaw also competed for the Aztecs, taking 77th in 23:33.90.

Earlier this year (Sept. 27), SDSU tied for 10th out of 21 at the Stanford Invitational on the same course (Stanford Golf Course) that Friday's meet will be held. In that race, also a 6K, Ribeiro led the way in 44th (22:10), followed by Hanshaw (65th, 22:34), Seynaeve (72nd, 22:36), Roesgen (89th, 22:49), Chelsea Kruthers (103rd, 22:57), Gammage (160th, 23:31) and Towner (218th, 24:11).

The same six - Gammage, Hanshaw, Ribeiro, Roesgen, Seynaeve and Towner - that ran at the MW Championships for San Diego State are also entered in the NCAA West Regional.

The Aztecs finished 30th at last year's meet.

The top 25 in the race will receive all-West Region recognition.

Both the women's 6K race and the men's 10K race will start at the second tee of the Stanford Golf Course, which is located at the corner of Electioneer Road and Fremont Road. Admission is free, but parking is only available in Visitor Pay Parking spaces and is not allowed at the Stanford Golf Course Clubhouse.
