BOULDER CITY, Nev. - - The San Diego State women's golf team continued its stranglehold on first place at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown after shooting a combined 3-over par 291 on Monday during the second round at the par-72, 6,277-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club. Despite adding 13 strokes to their collective score from the previous day, the Aztecs still find themselves atop the standings with a 36-hole total of 4-under 572, maintaining a 10-shot lead over second-place UC Riverside (+6) heading into Tuesday's final round.

Once again, SDSU was paced by Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.), who moved to 11-under 133 for the tournament after firing a 68 on Monday. Despite three bogeys, the Aztec freshman sank an additional seven birdies during the second round, including four impressive conversions over her first five holes on the back nine, to help build a six-shot advantage over UCR's Brittani Ferraro (-5) on the individual leaderboard. With her effort, Krause became just the third SDSU player to record back-to-back rounds in the 60s since 1999, joining Christine Wong (2009) and teammate Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden), who accomplished the feat last spring.

Henrikson entered the day in a tie for fourth, but had her momentum derailed by five bogeys over a nine-hole span after making birdie at No. 1. The Aztec junior managed to regroup with a birdie and seven pars down the stretch to finish with a 75. Despite her moderate recovery, however, Henrikson was unable to avoid a slide into the ninth position at 1-over 145.

Meanwhile, Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) registered the second-lowest score of the day by an SDSU starter, logging her second straight 73 to climb one spot into a tie for 15th at 2-over 146. The Aztec sophomore countered five bogeys with four birdies, including a successful conversion on the par-5, 540-yard No. 16, which played as the third-toughest hole on Monday.

Elsewhere, freshman Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay) figured in the Aztecs' total for the second round, trimming five strokes off her score from the previous day with a 75. After experiencing three bogeys and double-bogey on the front nine, Chaves played spot-free golf down the stretch, notching seven pars and two birdies to climb 14 places into a tie for 76th at 12-over 156.

However, the day was not kind to senior Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who was disqualified for the second round after making an improper drop on the 17th hole.

Rounding out the SDSU delegation was freshman Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.), an individual competitor who jumped seven places into a tie for ninth with Henrikson at 1-over 145 after shooting a 72. Lacey offset a double-bogey on the 16th with birdies at Nos. 2 and 13, which ranked as the second and fourth-most difficult holes of the second round, respectively.

The Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown concludes on Tuesday, with San Diego State slated to tee off once again alongside UC Riverside and UNLV in a shotgun start, beginning at 8 a.m. PT.
