Rowing Takes Second at Row for the Cure

Oct. 26, 2014

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team's open eight `A' boat finished in second place in the women's open eight at the Row for the Cure regatta on Mission Bay this morning. The event, hosted by UC San Diego, raised money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The open eight race was the first event of the morning for the Aztecs and SDSU entered two boats into the race. The San Diego State `A' boat came in just behind first-place finisher USD `A' with a time of 13 minutes, 23 seconds. Also competing in the same race was the Aztec's `B' open eight boat. The `B' squad finished in the tenth position with a time of 14:57.

The novice eight boat claimed victory in its inaugural outing for SDSU. The novice crew defeated two boats from Orange Coast College (15:09 and 15:50) and San Diego (17:06) with a time of 15:05.

"The top eight rowed well to finish in second place," said head coach Bill Zack. "We will make a few adjustments over the next two weeks in preparations for the Fall Classic. The novice eight claimed a nice win in their first collegiate race. The novice crew will make a push for positions in the boats as they gain more experience as we get closer to the American Athletic Conference Championships."

San Diego State will next compete in the San Diego Fall Classic on November 9 on Mission Bay.
