BOULDER CITY, Nev. - San Diego State freshman Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.) fired a blistering 7-under par 65 on Sunday to lead the Aztec women's golf team during the opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club. With her performance, Krause logged the program's lowest 18-hole individual score since SDSU joined the Mountain West in 1999.

As a team, the Aztecs shot a season-low 7-under 281 to build a six-shot advantage over UC Riverside (-1) on the par-72, 6,277-yard course layout. In addition, tournament host UNLV (+1) finds itself in the third position, while Indiana (+6), Gonzaga (+6) and Long Beach State (+6) landed in a tie for the fourth spot heading into Monday's second round.

Individually, Krause topped the 96-golfer field with seven birdies on the day, including four on the back nine, to build a two-stroke lead over Savannah Vilaubi of UC Riverside, who recorded an opening-round 67, while UNLV's Dana Finkelstein logged a 69 to finish the day in third.

Not to be outdone, SDSU's Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) also remains in contention five shots behind Krause after carding a 2-under 70 on Sunday. The Aztec junior was cruising with three birdies on her first five holes before her momentum was derailed by a double-bogey at No. 6, along with bogeys at Nos. 8 and 10. Unfazed, Henrikson stormed back with a vengeance, notching three birdies and five pars down the stretch to forge a three-way tie for fourth with Brittani Ferraro of UCR and Kristen Strankman of Idaho.

The SDSU charge was also aided by senior Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and sophomore Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah), who find themselves in a logjam for 16th place with 11 other competitors after each shot a 1-over 73. Spiranac's round was highlighted by consecutive birdies on Nos. 9-10, with the former playing as the toughest hole of the day, a par-4, 398-yard track.

Meanwhile, Blair got off to a slow start with two straight bogeys before rebounding with three birdies and seven pars over her ensuing 10 holes. However, bogeys at Nos. 13 and 16 stymied her advance up the leaderboard.

Joining Spiranac and Blair in the 16th spot was freshman Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.), an unattached golfer who also shot a 73 on Sunday. Lacey totaled three birdies against four bogeys over her first 11 holes before closing with seven straight pars.

The SDSU starting lineup also included fellow classmate Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay), who finished the day in a tie for 90th at 9-over 81.

The second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown gets underway on Monday, with San Diego State scheduled to tee off alongside UC Riverside and UNLV beginning at 9:09 a.m. PT on hole No. 1.
