SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team has announced its 2015 schedule for the spring dual season, as the Aztecs take on seven teams that made the 2014 NCAA tournament, including a road match at national semifinalist UCLA, and home matches against Round of 16 qualifier California and defending Mountain West champion Boise State. In addition, SDSU will face Utah State for the first time as a member of the MW.
SDSU will play host to 15 home matches at Aztec Tennis Center, as well as co-hosting the SDSU-USD Invite March 19-21. San Diego State's spring schedule begins with a home contest against UC Riverside on Saturday, Jan. 16, before hitting the road to open conference play against Utah State on Friday, Jan. 30.
The Aztecs play host to Cal Poly on Jan. 30, then travel for road contests against in-state foes UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 1, and UCLA on Feb. 7. SDSU returns home to face Pacific on Feb. 15, and plays its last match outside of San Diego for nearly two months at Pepperdine on Feb. 18.
Including the SDSU-USD Invite, San Diego State begins an 11-match homestand against South Carolina on Feb. 20. The Aztecs will then play host to Rice on March 3, and California on March 5, before competing in the annual Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in La Jolla, Calif., March 5-8.
SDSU resumes dual-match play at Aztec Tennis Center against MW foe Boise State on March 8, St. John's on March 10, William & Mary on March 11, and Iowa on March 16.
Following the SDSU-USD Invite, the Aztecs play another four-consecutive home matches, starting with Santa Clara on March 27, Fresno State on April 3, Nevada on April 5, and crosstown foe USD on April 8. San Diego State hits the road for two MW contests, as it plays at Air Force on April 10, and at New Mexico on April 12. SDSU wraps up the regular season at home against UNLV on April 18, before the MW Tournament begins on April 23, in Albuquerque, N.M.
San Diego State advanced to the MW semifinals in 2014, after finishing the regular season with a 12-12 overall record and 3-1 mark in conference play. In the process, the Aztecs extended their MW regular-season winning streak to 12-consecutive matches. Senior Thorsten Bertsch (Mannheim, Germany), currently ranked No. 122 in the nation, was an all-MW singles selection for the third-straight season in 2014, and was named all-MW in doubles play with former Aztec Hunter Nicholas for the second-consecutive year.
