Volleyball Drops Four-Set Decision at Wyoming

LARAMIIE, Wyo. - San Diego State won the opening sent, but was unable to sustain its momentum as it dropped a four-set decision (27-25, 20-25, 13-25, 20-25) to Wyoming in Laramie Thursday evening. The loss ended a two-match win streak for the Aztecs, who saw their record fall to 5-7 overall and 11- in the Mountain West. The Cowgirls, meanwhile, improved to 12-5 (1-2 MW).

Halle Aiken and Ciara Brown led SDSU with 13 kills apiece. Brown turned in a team-high .393 hitting percentage while Aiken had a pair of blocks and five digs.

Freshman setter Courtney Eckenrode finished with 39 assists and also contributed a pair of blocks, two kills and five digs. Libero Alexa Saba ended the night with 18 digs.

San Diego State opened the match by hitting .372 in the first set as it came from three points down at 20-17 to tie the contest at 22-22. After the teams traded three points apiece, the Aztecs got kills from Eckenrode and Kaja Sandberg to win the set 27-25.

After the opening set, however, the Aztecs hit -.008 over the next three games. SDSU, which registered 21 kills in the first set, only managed a total of 32 over the next three contests as Wyoming took the lead midway through each of those contests and went on to win all three.

San Diego State now moves on to Fort Collins, Colo., where they will square off against league leader Colorado State on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 7:00 p.m. (MT) in Moby Arena on the CSU Campus. The Rams entered the week ranked seventh in the nation in the AVCA poll.
