NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The San Diego State swim team added a pair of dual meet wins to its season record as it defeated Vanderbilt (121-113) and Arkansas-Little Rock (155-78) Saturday afternoon at the Commodores' Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tenn.
The Aztecs won 11 of the 13 swimming events contested on the day as they improved to 6-0 on the year. There was no diving competition during the meet.
Sophomore Anika Apostalon got the contest underway as she led off SDSU's victorious 400 medley relay quartet. She along with teammates Laura Day, Summer Harrison and Chelsea Bailey turned in a time of 3:49.74 to capture the race.
Apostalon went on to win three individual events over the course of the afternoon. She took first in the 50 freestyle (23.05), 50 butterfly (24.89) and 100 individual medley (57.74.
Bailey also won a pair races including the 50 backstroke (26.31) and 100 backstroke (57.85). She was also a member of the 200 freestyle relay squad that placed first in the day's final event.
Other individual first-place finishers for San Diego State were Laura Day in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.57), Dana Michaels in the 1650 freestyle (17:27.79), Natilee Ruiz in the 100 freestyle (52.09) and Frida Berggren in the 200 freestyle (52.09.
In the two events that SDSU did not win, it had swimmers take second and third. In the 100 backstroke Day was second in 30.47 followed by Lydia Pereverzina (30.89). In the 200 freestyle Harrison was the runner-up (56.05) with Loreen Whitfield taking third (56.26).
In the final race of the afternoon (200 freestyle relay) it was the foursome of Taylor Johnson, Bailey, Brie Balsbough and Whitney Weisz that captured top spot in 1:35.62.
Up next for the Aztecs is a dual meet against the University of Hawai'i scheduled for Friday, Oct, 24, at 2:00 p.m. 9PT) at the Aztec Aquaplex.
