Sept. 28, 2014 TULSA, Okla. - San Diego State men's tennis sophomore Hendrik Jebens (Stuttgart, Germany) won a third-round match in the pre-qualifying draw of the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships on Sunday, before dropping his fourth-round match at Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Jebens began the day by earning a hard-fought victory over Georgia's Paul Oosterbaan in the third round, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, but fell short in the fourth round against 13th-seeded Nick Horton of North Carolina State, 6-3, 6-3.
Aztec junior Freddy Gelbrich (Isernhagen, Germany) lost a good battle in the third round on Sunday morning, as he dropped his match to Drake Ben Mullis, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (3). Gelbrich had two match-points while ahead in the third and final set, 5-4, but was unable to put Mullis away.
SDSU senior Thorsten Bertsch (Mannheim, Germany) will compete in the tournament's qualifying draw against Denver's Diogo Rocha on Monday at 8 a.m. CT, while doubles play is set to begin on Tuesday.
