SAN DIEGO - Despite having only six of its 12 runners finish the race and working through the meet in preparation of next weekend's competitive Stanford Invitational, the San Diego State cross country team finished second at the 70th Annual Aztec Invitational Saturday morning at the Tecolote Shores North Park on Mission Bay in San Diego.

In all, 245 runners competed across three races in the 70th edition of the meet. The day began with the 5,000-Meter Dirt Dog Community Race, which featured 150 competitors.

Salvador Salinas ran the fastest time of the day in 16 minutes, 2.10 seconds, beating out 94 other men's finishers in the process. Doug Akvien (16:10.30) and Steven Underwood (16:11.10) followed in second and third, respectively.
