SAN DIEGO - The No. 27th-ranked San Diego State men's soccer team extended its winning streak to five-straight matches on Sunday evening, as the Aztecs defeated Pacific, 2-0, at SDSU Sports Deck.

Sophomore forward Forrayah Bass scored his third goal of the season in the 11th minute to put SDSU ahead for good, 1-0. Bass gathered a pass from junior defender Casey Phillips at the edge of the box and fired a shot into the lower-right corner of the net, as the Aztecs scored first in a match for the fourth time this season.

Freshman forward Donald Benamna gave San Diego State some insurance in the second half, as his goal in the 62nd minute off an assist from junior Luis Alvarado extended the lead to 2-0. The Aztecs held Pacific to only two shots attempted for the night, as SDSU held a 20-2 edge and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

San Diego State (5-1) has now won five-consecutive matches for the first time since 2005, and is off to its best start through six contests since beginning that season 5-0-1. In addition, the Aztecs improved to 17-5-2 in non-conference home matches since the beginning of the 2010 campaign.

Benamna recorded a game-high six shots, while freshman Jeff Rhodes and sophomore Pablo Vasquez finished with three shots apiece. Bass had a team-best two shots on goal, while senior defenders Evyn Hewett and Wil Cannon each played all 90 minutes on the back line. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Adam Allmaras tallied one save for his fifth-straight win in the net.

The Aztecs hit the road for their first match away from home this season on Friday, Sept. 19, as they take on Florida International beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

Man of the Match: Senior captain Evyn Hewett (La Palma, Calif.) was named Man of the Match on Sunday evening, as he led the Aztecs' defense to its second shutout this season. Hewett played all 90 minutes in Sunday's match, and has now appeared in 54-consecutive matches for the Men of Montezuma.
