SAN DIEGO - Sophomore forward Forrayah Bass scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute to lift the San Diego State men's soccer team to a victory over Buffalo, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at SDSU Sports Deck.

After Bass got off two good shots earlier in the second half, a goal kick from freshman Adam Allmaras was deflected by freshman Brady Blackwell to set up Bass streaking down the middle of the field. The sophomore knocked it through the left side of the net from straight on and about 10-yards out to put the Aztecs (1-1) in front for good.

The goal was SDSU's first of the season, ending a sequence of several missed opportunities to begin the 2014 campaign. The two teams tied with nine shots apiece, although the Aztecs out-shot Buffalo (0-2) in the second half, 7-4. Allmaras tallied a save to earn his first-career victory in the net, as SDSU won the first-ever meeting between the two programs and improved to 13-5-2 in non-conference home matches since the beginning of the 2010 season.

Bass finished the day with four shots, including three on target, while junior Casey Phillips, sophomore Casey Macias and freshmen Jeff Rhodes, Ozzie Ramos and Thom Van den Berg each recorded one shot. In addition, Allmaras and Blackwell were each credited with an assist on the score by Bass, who made his first appearance in an Aztec uniform on Sunday.

San Diego State returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 5, when it plays host to Clemson to begin the Courtyard Marriott Central San Diego Soccer Tournament at SDSU Sports Deck. The Aztecs will take on Denver on Sunday, Sept. 7, while UC Irvine and Clemson will square off at the sports deck immediately after.

Man of the Match: Sophomore forward Forrayah Bass was named Man of the Match on Sunday afternoon, scoring the game-winning goal and finishing with a game-high four shots, three on target, in the Aztecs' 1-0 victory over Buffalo. The forward from Leeds, England played his freshman season at Louisberg College in North Carolina, where he recorded 11 points on five goals with one assist in 10 appearances in 2013.
