BREA, Calif. - Elaine Ribeiro finished sixth out of 94 runners to pace the San Diego State cross country to a third-place showing at the Mark Covert Classic Invitational Saturday at Carbon Canyon Park in Brea, Calif.

Ribeiro set a collegiate-best time of 18 minutes, 25.6 seconds over the 5,000-meter course. Last year at the same meet, Ribeiro came in 52nd with a time of 20:04.1.

Aztec cross country newcomers Grace Hanshaw and Lily Seynaeve followed Ribeiro in ninth and 10th, respectively. Hanshaw, who ran the 5K and 10K for SDSU in the outdoor track & field season, completed the 5K course today in 18:39.1. Seynaeve was less than a second behind in 18:39.8.

Rachel Roesgen (13th, 18:46.0) and Cassidy Towner (17th, 18:56.4) rounded out San Diego State's top five.

The Aztecs finished third out of eight teams with 55 points, just four points behind USC's 51. Last year in the same meet, SDSU came in fifth out of eight squads. Loyola Marymount captured the team title with 32 points. San Diego State was well ahead of the meet host and fourth-place Cal State Fullerton (133), while Pepperdine (142), Long Beach State (149), San Diego (166) and Cal State Bakersfield (234) also competed.

Jessica McCall was the Aztecs' No. 6 runner, coming in 24th in 19:23.5. Chelsea Kruthers (34th, 19:43.8), Dynasty Gammage (38th, 19:51.3) and Dominique Regalado (39th, 19:53.4) were the next SDSU finishers.

Hannah Sawatzki (51st, 20:12.8), Cali King (53rd, 20:18.4) and Melissa Wendorf (61st, 20:32.7) also completed the 5K course for San Diego State.

The Aztecs are back in action on Sept. 13 at the UC Riverside Invitational. The meet, which will take place on the UCR Ag Ops Course, kicks off at 7:30 a.m. PT.
