SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State women's basketball star Courtney Clements will pursue a WNBA championship for the second year in a row when her Chicago Sky squad squares off against the Atlanta Dream in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, starting Friday, Aug. 22, at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

Clements, who played for the Dream in 2013, was acquired by the Sky in a preseason trade on May 7. She appeared in 33 of the team's 34 games during the 2014 regular season, averaging 2.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.4 minutes of action. Against the San Antonio Stars on Aug. 17, Clements earned her first pro start, scoring a career-best 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go with three assists in 38 minutes.

Last year, Clements became the first Aztec to compete in the WNBA finals when her former Atlanta club advanced to the championship series before falling to the Minnesota Lynx in three straight games.

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Pokey Chatman, Chicago placed fourth in the WNBA Eastern Conference standings with a 15-19 record, but finished with a 14-8 mark in conference play. In five regular-season meetings against the Dream, the Sky own a 3-2 advantage.

After Friday's playoff opener in Atlanta, the series shifts to Chicago on Sunday, Aug. 24, for a nationally televised matchup on ESPN2, starting at 6 p.m. CT/ 4 p.m. PT. Meanwhile, a potential game three will be contested in Atlanta on Tuesday, Aug. 26, if necessary.

Clements garnered honorable mention All-America distinction and first-team all-Mountain West accolades in her final two seasons at SDSU (2011-13), amassing 1,495 points in an Aztec uniform, which ranks fifth in program history. In addition, she became the first SDSU player to capture MW Player of the Year honors in 2012 after leading the league in scoring with 17.4 points per game.

The Aztecs, under the guidance of second-year head coach Stacie Terry, open their 2014-15 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 8, with an exhibition game against Point Loma Nazarene at Viejas Arena, starting at noon PT.
