SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State women's basketball standout Cierra Warren (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) has signed a contract to play professionally in Europe with the Haskovo 2012 club based in Haskovo, Bulgaria.
"We are very excited for Cierra to begin a new chapter in her basketball career and signing with Haskovo is the next step," said Aztec head coach Stacie Terry. "We are very proud that she will be representing San Diego State as a professional basketball player and we can't wait to watch her progress at the next level."
In her lone season as an Aztec in 2013-14, Warren became the program's eighth first-team all-Mountain West selection in the past six years after leading the conference with a .544 field-goal percentage, which ranked 31st in the nation. The 6-foot-4 center also topped the league in offensive rebounds (3.3/gm) during MW play and finished third in blocked shots (1.3/gm).
As SDSU's leading scorer last season, Warren averaged 15.4 points per game, which ranked fourth in the conference, and surpassed the 20-point plateau on 10 occasions, with the Aztecs posting a 7-3 record in those contests. In a home victory over San José State on Jan. 22, Warren logged the third of her five double-doubles on the year with a career-high 31 points and 14 rebounds en route to capturing her second MW Player of the Week award of the campaign.
"I am truly blessed for this opportunity," Warren said. "I just want to work hard and play up to my capabilities, so I can contribute to our team's success. I also want to thank all of the Aztec coaches, players and fans. Without their support, this would not have been possible."
A 2009 graduate of Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Warren also played collegiately for North Carolina (2009-10) and Louisville (2011-12) before transferring to Montezuma Mesa prior to the 2012-13 campaign. She sat out that year, but served as valuable scout team performer, as SDSU captured its second straight MW regular-season title.
Last year, Haskovo finished fifth in the seven-team Bulgarian League regular-season standings with a 10-14 record, before falling to eventual champion Dunav, 3-1, in a best-of-five semifinal playoff series.
