SAN DIEGO - San Diego State Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jim Sterk will take over SDSU athletics' official Twitter account @GoAztecs on Tuesday, July 29, beginning at noon PT. Sterk will answer tweets from Twitter users that utilize the hashtag #SterkLive.
Entering his fifth season at SDSU, Sterk has overseen the most successful stretch in the school's athletics history, with the Aztecs posting their highest finish ever in the Learfield Directors' Cup this past spring, landing at No. 56 in the Division I standings. During his tenure, SDSU has won 24 conference team championships since the beginning of the 2011-12 academic year, including a school-record 12 titles in 2012-13, followed by seven in 2013-14.
In addition, the Aztecs have compiled the third-highest winning percentage in the nation in football and men's basketball since the beginning of the 2010-11 season at 76.7 percent (148-45). SDSU is also one of only five schools in the country to have appeared in five consecutive NCAA men's basketball tournaments and have its football team play in four straight bowl games.
Under Sterk's guidance, student-athletes have excelled in the classroom as well. This past spring, a school-record 317 individuals were honored as scholar-athletes, while the department as a whole established a new standard with a 980 average in the annual Academic Progress Report (APR), released by the NCAA.
