SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State announced Thursday that football student-athlete Jake Fely has been granted a sixth-year waiver request by the NCAA. The waiver will allow Fely, who will now be classified athletically as a junior, to compete in both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Fely has appeared in 33 games over his career with 30 starts, registering 170 tackles (114 solo), 20 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, three pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. An Oceanside, Calif., native, Fely was a second-team all-Mountain West selection in his last full season in 2012, where he had 90 tackles, while leading the Aztecs in TFL (11.5), sacks (7) and forced fumbles (2), and adding two fumble recoveries. He started all 13 games that year as SDSU won its 19th conference title.

In 2012, Fely became the only Rocky Long coached player in the last 14 seasons to record at least two fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, 10 tackles for loss and 90 tackles in a single season.

Last season, Fely had 20 tackles (15 solos), 1.5 TFL, one sack and a PBU before going down with a season-ending injury in the fourth game of the year at New Mexico State. Prior to the season, Fely was on the Bednarik Award Watch List (Defensive Player of the Year) and Lombardi Award Watch List (Top Lineman), and was a preseason first-team selection by the MW media, Athlon Sports, Phil Steele and Sporting News.

Fely had 58 tackles (30 solo), 5.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks and three forced fumbles as a sophomore in 2011, while starting all 13 contests. He had two tackles, 1.5 TFL and a sack as a true freshman in 2010 over three contests before missing the final 10 with an injury.

San Diego State returns 12 starters and 35 letterwinners from a team that finished 8-5 overall and 6-2 in MW play a year ago, culminating with a victory over Buffalo, 49-24, in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. With its bowl game appearance, the Aztecs became one of only 29 teams in the nation, and one of just five non-BCS, schools to play in a bowl game in each of the last four seasons.

Season tickets are currently on sale through GoAztecs.com and the SDSU ticket office (619-283-SDSU).

An internet only pre-sale for the KGB Skyshow game on Nov. 8 game against Idaho is available for KGB listeners, SDSU season-ticket holders and Aztec Nation subscribers began on Friday, June 20.
