SAN DIEGO -
SDSU 4, BOISE STATE 0 | VIDEO REPLAY
Sophomore Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) tossed a two-hit shutout to help San Diego State stop Boise State's eight-game winning streak in a 4-0 victory Thursday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (37-17) are now in a three-way tie for first place in the Mountain West standings at 14-8 with the visiting Broncos (30-20) and Fresno State with two games to play.
O'Toole (28-8) allowed just two infield singles and a walk over seven innings, while striking out four. It was the left-hander's sixth solo shutout of the season and ninth of her career.
After leaving a combined five runners on base through the first three innings, including three in scoring position, SDSU finally came through with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Junior Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a single by senior Dominique Dinner (Monterey, Calif.). Each runner moved up a base on a wild pitch by BSU's Rebecca Patton and sophomore Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) followed with a single to left-center field to score Miles with the first run of the game.
Sophomore Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.) then reached on a fielder's choice to the Boise State second baseman, which allowed Dinner to score on the play. Downey and Ruiz each moved up a base on another wild pitch by Patton, before a groundout by junior Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) scored Downey.
Ruiz scored San Diego State's final run of the game on another wild pitch.
In all, the Aztecs' four runs in the inning came on two hits, a walk and three wild pitches.
Senior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) had two of SDSU's eight hits in the game, while Miles singled, walked and scored a run. Downey and Ruiz each had a single, an RBI and a run, and Dinner recorded a single, a run and her team-leading 21st stolen base of the season.
