SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head football coach Rocky Long has announced the addition of Oregon transfer Jake Rodrigues to the team's roster. The 6-foot-3, 217-pound quarterback, who signed an athletic grant-in-aid agreement with the Aztecs, joins the team after spending two years with the Ducks in Eugene and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Last year, Rodrigues played in seven games behind starter and Manning Award finalist Marcus Mariota, going 3-for-6 for 67 yards and a touchdown, compiling a 165.50 passing efficiency. He also rushed for 38 yards on four attempts, posting a 9.5 average per carry.
Rodriques joined UO out of high school for the 2012 spring season and practiced with the team through the 2014 spring campaign. He was 7-for-18 for 66 yards in the program's spring game on May 3.
Rodrigues prepped for Whitney High School in Rocklin, Calif., where he was a two-time Sac-Joaquin Section all-league selection and offensive player of the year. As a senior in 2011, Rodrigues passed for 2,036 yards and 26 touchdowns, while rushing for 684 yards and 11 scores. In 2010, he threw for 2,039 yards and 21 touchdowns and ran for 1,300 yards and 22 touchdowns en route to being named the Sac-Joaquin Section Offensive Player of the Year.
Rodrigues was a four-star recruit out of high school by Rivals, ESPN and Scout. Rivals had him as the fifth-best pro-style quarterback in the class of 2012, while ESPN ranked him No. 12.
San Diego State kicks off its 2014 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 30, when it welcomes Northern Arizona to Qualcomm Stadium. Season tickets are now available to the general public for as low as $66 per seat.
