ATHENS, Ga. - San Diego State senior Laura Antonaña Iriarte finished her collegiate career at the NCAA Individual Championship after falling to No. 52 Viktoriya Lushkova of Oklahoma State, 6-2, 6-3, at Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.
Despite her 44th spot in the ITA rankings, Antonaña Iriarte could not get past Lushkova, who was tabbed as the Central Region Rookie of the Year, Big 12 Freshman of the Year and was named to both singles and doubles all-conference teams.
Antonaña Iriarte's final season on The Mesa was one of great success as was a five-time Mountain West player of the week honoree which led to being named to the all-league singles team and the conference's player of the year. The San Sebastian, Spain native also posted a team-best singles record this season, 25-8 overall, 17-5 in dual-match play. Additionally, she held a 4-2 mark against nationally-ranked opponents, highlighted by two upsets of top-30 players.
The 2013-14 campaign was one for the record books as Antonaña Iriarte earned the most player of the week honors than any other Aztec in history (5), tied for third for the most victories in one season (25) and ended a 17-year drought of an individual selection to the NCAA Tournament.
