LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three San Diego State softball players were named all-NFCA West Region selections, the NFCA announced today. Senior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) was selected to the first team, sophomore Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) was picked for the second team and freshman Sydnee Cable (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made the third team.
Jackson, who also was a first-team all-region pick last year, is batting .354 (51-for-144) with 16 home runs, 48 RBIs, 35 runs, nine doubles and 59 walks, while owning a .543 on-base percentage and a .764 slugging percentage. Jackson leads the Aztecs in runs, homers, RBIs, total bases (110), slugging percentage and on-base percentage, and has recorded the highest on-base percentage and most walks in SDSU single-season history. Her 59 walks, which are 25 more than the previous school record of 34, lead the nation. She's also 12th in the country in on-base percentage, tied for 22nd in home runs, 34th in slugging percentage and tied for 69th in RBIs. Earlier this week, Jackson was named to the all-Mountain West team for the third straight year.
O'Toole is 30-8 this year with a save and a 1.66 ERA over 240 innings. She has 25 complete games in 33 starts, appeared in 45 of the team's 56 contests, and has 184 strikeouts against 39 walks, while limiting the opposition to a .229 average. The left-hander has posted the best winning percentage (.789) in school history, while her 30 wins are tied for the most in a season (also Christina Ross in 2008 and Sandra Durazo in 2001). O'Toole, who on Tuesday was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Year after being the league's freshman of the year in 2013, is ranked in a tie for third in the nation in wins, 18th in walks allowed per seven innings (1.14), tied for 33rd in solo shutouts (7) and 35th in ERA.
Cable, meanwhile, has put together one of the best freshman seasons ever by a San Diego State player, batting a team-high .361 (52-for-144) to go along with a homer, 32 RBIs, 22 runs, nine doubles, 31 walks and 12 times hit by pitch, while posting a .503 on-base percentage. Cable's 12 times hit by pitch are a school single-season record, while her 31 walks and .503 on-base percentage rank first among all freshmen in Aztec history. She is tied for 51st in the nation in times hit by pitch and 64th in on-base percentage.
SDSU (39-17), which captured its third consecutive Mountain West title this year and seventh in the 15-year history of the league, will play No. 13/13 Michigan (42-12) at 12:30 p.m. PT Friday in Tempe, Ariz., on the campus of No. 4/4 Arizona State (44-10-1), the tournament's No. 9 overall seed. Dartmouth (31-17) is the other team in the double-elimination regional. The entire NCAA Tempe Regional will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
