Kristen Brown advanced to Saturday's final in the 100-meter hurdles to pace the 14th-ranked San Diego State track and field team Friday at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
Brown finished fourth out 32 entrants in the 100 hurdles prelims with a collegiate-best time of 13.50 seconds. She will now compete in tomorrow's final, slated for 2:28 p.m. CT.
Allison Reaser also competed at Drake in three different events. On the track, Reaser was eighth in the 400 hurdles (59.20) and 20th in the prelims of the 100 hurdles (13.94). She was also 11th in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10 ½ inches (5.75 meters).
The rest of the team began competition at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational in nearby La Jolla.
Jasmine Burrell led the way once again for the Aztec throwers, taking 13th in the invitational hammer throw with a heave of 184-06 (56.23m)) and 15th in the invitational discus throw at 171-04 (52.23m). Former SDSU and NCAA discus champion Whitney Ashley won the latter event with a toss of 209-03 (63.78m).
Freja Liljedahl, meanwhile, was 24th in the invitational hammer with a mark of 166-06 (50.76m), which was the sixth-best throw in program history.
In the open discus throw, Ariel Oliver took ninth out of 48 entrants with a toss of 161-10 (49.34m), while Alexa Evans came in 14th in 156-00 (47.55m).
Two-time NCAA triple jump champion Shanieka Thomas is scheduled for the triple jump Saturday at the Drake Relays at 10 a.m. CT. At the Triton Invite on Saturday, the invitational javelin throw, invitational shot put, Leon T. Roach III Invitational pole vault and 4x100-meter relay all start at 11 a.m. PT, while the meet ends at 6 p.m. PT with the 5,000 meters.
